Apple has applied artificial intelligence technology in many products to improve images or edit text, but has not deployed any generative AI products like ChatGPT or Google Bard.

According to Bloomberg sources, this is considered a major mistake within Apple. Management has been subjective about the new wave of AI, so the company is focusing on investing about one billion USD per year to make up for wasted time from the end of 2022.

Apple has built a large Ajax language model and a chatbot with the internal name AppleGPT. However, this is still only a test model and has not been included in the official product. Ajax is trained on 200 billion parameters, which is said to be more powerful than GPT-3.5’s 175 billion parameters.

At Apple, AI projects are led by John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi. In it, Giannandrea manages the technology development for the new AI system, as well as improving Siri. Some sources say a completely new version of Siri will be released soon in 2024. Federighi is in charge of the software engineering team to add AI to the next iOS version. In the future, AI will also be integrated into Xcode to help developers create applications for Apple faster.
