Many people reported that when asking questions to ChatGPT , the chatbot did not work stably, giving the response: “An error occurred. If this problem persists, please contact us via the help center” , and link to OpenAI’s support page.
On DownDetector, a tool specializing in monitoring the developments of Internet services, there have been nearly 3,000 reports saying they had problems not being able to use ChatGPT. The problem appeared from around 5:00 a.m. and continues, mainly in the US, India, Japan and Europe.
The ChatGPT issue was reported on DownDetector as of 8am.
On X, OpenAI quickly confirmed that the system was experiencing errors related to the application programming interface (API) and data backup. “We are continuing to fix the issue. The issue is related to our database copy,” OpenAI wrote.
An OpenAI spokesperson also said the company’s system is having problems with ChatGPT. “We know the error rate in ChatGPT and some ChatGPT API integration software is increasing. Teams are working on a fix. The issue will be resolved soon,” this person told Business Insider .

Earlier this month, ChatGPT was also inaccessible. OpenAI later confirmed that the company’s system was subject to a denial of service (DDoS) attack by hackers. The latest incident occurred in the context that OpenAI just fired CEO Sam Altman. More than 700 employees then protested by signing a letter threatening to quit if things were not clarified.
According to Bloomberg , on the afternoon of November 21, Altman sat at the negotiating table with the board of directors, led by Adam D’Angelo, who voted to fire him. The results have not been announced yet.
