DDoS is a form of denial of service attack that sends a large number of requests to the target system, causing the system to become overloaded and possibly paralyzed. This attack was born a long time ago, but is still a popular form used by cybercriminals because it is easy to deploy and difficult to leave traces.

Last year, Google recorded the largest denial of service attack in history lasting 69 minutes, with a peak of 46 million requests per second – the highest number to date. This year, Google did not state specific numbers, but emphasized that the person behind “generated more queries than the total number of article views reported by Wikipedia in the entire month of September”. Wikipedia is currently one of the 10 most visited websites in the world, attracting 4.8 billion views per month according to SimilarWeb’s 2022 data.
