Nvidia CEO: 'Completely AI-generated games will be available in the next 5-10 years'

In an interview after the GPU Technology Conference – GTC 2024 event organized by Nvidia this week, in addition to questions related to the Blackwell B200 chip, CEO Jensen Huang was also asked to predict the future of AI, including games.

“I think almost everything in technology can represent a decade with an S-curve,” Huang said. “With games, in 10 years, you’ll be at the other end of the S-curve. In five years you’ll probably be in the middle, where people are saying: Look, what’s going on. Because So, in the next 5-10 years, the ability for AI to create games on its own is completely possible.”

AI can now create simple games. However, with complex games, everything stops at supporting NPCs – characters in the game controlled by the computer, used to interact with players. Nvidia also has a number of NPC solutions to help make character interactions smoother and language more natural. For example, the company offers the ACE (Avatar Cloud Engine) program for major games and regularly upgrades it.

According to Tom’s Hardware , with the continuous improvement of large language models (LLM) as well as increasingly powerful AI chips that help shorten training time, Mr. Huang’s comment is feasible. However, this site believes that the prospect of AI creating a complete large game on its own will take 20 years. Previously, Mr. Huang also made a controversial statement when he said that children do not need to learn to code because AI will take care of programming. According to him, humans are in the early stages of the AI revolution and programming is no longer an important skill. People should focus on more valuable specializations such as biology, education, manufacturing or agriculture.

In January, Matthew Candy, IBM’s AI Director, also said that artificial intelligence will help people without computer skills to develop software products themselves. He predicts that in the future, people just need to describe their ideas, and AI will quickly program, create and test products. By mid-2023, Emad Mostaque, CEO of Stability AI, predicts there will be no more programmers in the next 5 years.
